AWAKE NIGHT DIRECT CARE STAFF Schedules: Shift 2 B-shift Shift 1 A-shift Saturday 11:00pm to Sunday 9:30AM Sunday 11:00pm to Monday 8:30AM Monday 11:00pm to Tuesday 8:30AM Shift 2 B-shift Every other Tuesday Night 11:00pm to Wednesday 8:30am Every other Tuesday Night 11:00pm to Wednesday 8:30am Wednesday 11:00pm to Thursday 8:30am Thursday 11:00pm to 8:30am Friday Friday 11:00pm to 9:30am Saturday. Schedule goes to 9:30am when clients are out of school or on vacation Schedule averages 35 hours a week. *ROLE:* Provide trauma-informed, culturally sensitive therapeutic intervention within scope of practice to youth and families in collaboration with the Child Family Team (CFT). Utilization of the Integrated Core Practice Model (ICPM) in the treatment of the youth. Trauma Informed Care (TIC) includes primarily the use of RSA’s selected Trauma Informed Care model of Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) model. *AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:* Provide awake night supervision to youth and promote a sense of security and safety. Additionally, provide trauma-informed, culturally sensitive care to the youth. Trauma Informed Care (TIC) includes primarily the use of RSA’s selected Trauma Informed Care model of Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) model. *TO WHOM IMMEDIATELY RESPONSIBLE :*Awake Night Campus Supervisor *DUTIES:* 1. Report to the Awake Night campus supervisor any deviation from normal procedures and/or disturbances on campus. 2. Respectfully wake youth in the morning; supervise breakfast period and monitor the morning clean-up period. 3. Learns and utilizes ARC trauma informed care model interventions appropriate to role and scope of practice (for example: Attunement, Engagement, and Resiliency Building, etc.). 4. Serves to role model the use of ARC principles, Integrated Core Practice Model (ICPM), and use of the Child and Family Team (CFT) interventions. 5. Be an agent of change that helps set the tone in the unit, offers support, direction, and help youth to learn effective coping skills and emotional regulation. Assist in developing an atmosphere within the living unit that encourages youth to learn to make more appropriate choices, use better judgment, and increase the youth’s chances of functioning successfully. 6. Use active roving style of supervision to implement routines and rhythms established in the milieu (being fully present, attuned, and engaged as directed by the Unit Supervisor, Unit Manager, or Lead worker on duty). Know at all times where youth under your care are and that they are properly supervised. 7. Provide principles of prudent parenting, understanding, support, guidance, trauma informed discipline, and modeling designed to help youth develop increased responsibility. 8. Appropriately address clients’ disruptive/unhealthy/inappropriate (dis-regulated) behaviors and do so with self-awareness (Being Proactive vs Reactive). 9. Maintain a professional presence and attitude by being open to developing an increased self-awareness, healthy verbal, emotional, and physical boundaries. Presenting a non-judgmental response to client behavior and history. 10. Provide for the youth' emotional, cognitive, spiritual and physical well-being. 11. Demonstrate motivation for learning, developing, and utilizing ARC trauma informed principles (such as “being curious not furious”, “check yourself before you wreck yourself”, attuning to youth and coworkers feeling state, utilizing supervision and team to develop caregiver affect management, etc.). 12. Adhere to all training requirements. 13. Sign off on the nightly 15-minute bed check log. 14. Keeping prescribed records such as team logbook, incident profiles, missing person reports, etc. 15. Communicate with day-shift Direct Care Staff in the unit at the beginning and end of each shift. 16. Allied responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor/Manager. *Creating a safe environment:* · As an ARC interventionist, provide trauma-informed, culturally sensitive therapeutic interventions in collaboration with the treatment team. · Remain curious, objective, and professional with respect for the client when addressing behaviors and utilizing effective responses. · Conduct quiet unobtrusive checks throughout the night. · Control the noise level. If a group is too loud, intervene in an encouraging fashion. · Anticipate problems and prevent their occurrence (distract, use humor, break negative energy with redirecting attention when youth are engaging in provocative behavior). · Use of harsh /profane language is a poor model for the youth. Use respectful language. Avoid threats, abusive language, or deceit. · Admit mistakes, allow for face saving avenues for both yourself and the youth. *Roving supervision*. · Be unpredictable in movement around area of supervision (no set patterns). · Visually check for evidence that the youth is in bed at least every 15 minutes and log (i.e., skin, feet, etc.) · Have a presence in the dorm and rove from area to area with focus on ‘command presence’ and controlled effective containment. · Youth should sense your calm, yet assertive presence. · Privacy rights of youth are respected while providing effective supervision and promoting personal safety of all youth. During bathroom use and shower period staff members are to set a tone of respect for youth’s sense of modesty and provide a supervisory presence that shall prevent grooming type behaviors and reduce potential for embarrassment of minors. During bedtime hours, no more than one youth may use the bathroom at a time. Direct care staff shall meet one of the following requirements prior to employment: *Have a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree;* *Have a valid Child Development Teaching Permit;* *Have completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster & Kinship Care Education and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth;* *Have a valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth;* *Have a valid Vocational Training certificate, credential or documentation demonstrating that the individual is a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth; or have previously been employed as a staff or volunteer at a group home or short-term residential therapeutic center for at least one year.* Direct care staff shall be at least 21 years of age.
