I. General Purpose of the Job This purpose of this position is to provide assistance and support to the residents of the Memory Care Community during a typically difficult period of the evening. Their role is to fill in the gaps, assist Care Partners with residents and also provide supportive assistance to the Care Partners by observing the environment and addressing needs that arise. The Care Assistant is available to primarily provide assistance with activities, resident interaction/intervention and housekeeping. This position will use a person centered and relationship-based approach when interacting and supporting the residents. This position reports to the Director of Residential Services. II. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Observe the environment to identify residents who are not engaged and assist in involving them in group activity or engage in one-on-one activity. Assist the Care Partners in maintaining the evening activity program by stepping in and helping the activity carry on for residents not needing physical assistance. Responsible for setting the tables, pouring juice, serving meals, clearing tables and cleaning and sweeping the activity area after the evening meal. Assist the residents at mealtimes by serving food and assisting them with feeding if needed. In coordination with Care Partners offer activities or interventions that can be used to help calm agitated, anxious or aggressive behaviors. Assist the Care Partners in maintaining residents’ dignity by making sure that they look presentable and remain clean and neat. Assist residents with their care needs by assisting with ADLs as directed. Demonstrate and integrate training into daily interventions and interaction with the residents. Maintain an environment that balances structure and nurture while working to engage residents in daily life and encourage them to be as independent as possible. Maintain a high level of awareness of residents’ rights, quality of life, confidentiality, and privacy. Complete and maintain training requirements related to dementia care, program philosophy, and job description-related training Follow Residents’ Rights and Confidentiality policies at all times. Follow facility safety, emergency & disaster program. Maintain the principles of infection control; be aware of all safety hazards and emergency procedures for fire and disaster that would ensure the safety of our residents. Assume accountability for data contained in the employees’ handbook. Attend all in-service training programs and complete Relias trainings as assigned. Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor in a cooperative manner III. Qualifications Must pass a California criminal background clearance. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Possess, at minimum, a high school diploma or GED. At least six months of experience with the elderly is desirable. Must have good leadership and interpersonal skills. Must be in good physical and mental condition, capable of performing assigned tasks; Good health must be verified by a health screening performed by a licensed physician, including a chest X-ray or intradermal test for TB. Must be able to hear, talk, and have a clear vision with or without corrective lenses. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, push, pull, kneel, and move intermittently during working hours and lift or exert force of up to 50 lbs. Must be able to perform in a busy environment, subject to frequent interruptions, subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents and family members, subject to falls, infectious diseases, substances, odors.Must be willing to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
