A *Caregiver in a Memory Care setting* plays a critical role in supporting residents with cognitive impairments such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Their responsibilities focus on providing structured, compassionate care while ensuring safety, dignity, and emotional reassurance in a secure environment. Here is a summary of the core duties based on your requirements: *Personal Care Assistance* *Activities of Daily Living (ADLs):* Assisting residents with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and continence care while using a calm, patient, and respectful approach. *Cueing & Redirection:* Providing step-by-step guidance, reminders, and gentle redirection to help residents complete daily tasks independently when possible. *Mobility & Transfers:* Safely assisting with ambulation, repositioning, and transfers while being mindful of fall risks and confusion. *Behavioral & Emotional Support* *Dementia Care Approach:* Utilizing person-centered care techniques to manage behaviors such as agitation, wandering, sundowning, or confusion. *Emotional Reassurance:* Providing consistent reassurance, validation, and a calm presence to reduce anxiety and distress. *Structured Engagement:* Encouraging participation in memory care activities designed to stimulate cognitive function and promote routine. *Monitoring & Safety* *Close Observation:* Monitoring residents for behavioral changes, mood shifts, or signs of distress and reporting concerns promptly. *Wandering Prevention:* Ensuring residents remain in secure areas and following facility protocols to prevent elopement. *Safety Awareness:* Maintaining a safe, clutter-free environment and adhering to infection control and safety procedures. *Nutrition & Hydration Support* *Meal Assistance:* Assisting with feeding as needed, using appropriate techniques for residents with cognitive or swallowing difficulties. *Intake Monitoring:* Observing and documenting food and fluid intake to prevent dehydration or malnutrition. *Documentation & Communication* *Daily Charting:* Accurately documenting care provided, behaviors, ADLs, and any notable changes in condition. *Behavior Reporting:* Reporting incidents such as aggression, refusal of care, or unusual behaviors to supervisors or nursing staff. *Team Collaboration:* Communicating effectively with Med Techs, nurses, and leadership to ensure continuity of care.
