Job Title: PICC Line Certified Registered Nurse (RN) Department: Home Health / Clinical Services Reports To: Director of Nursing / Clinical Supervisor Position Summary The PICC Line Certified Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the insertion, maintenance, and management of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC lines). This role ensures safe, sterile, and effective vascular access care for patients in accordance with physician orders, agency policies, and state/federal regulations. Key Responsibilities Perform PICC line insertions using ultrasound and sterile technique Assess patients for appropriate vascular access and contraindications Provide ongoing care and maintenance of PICC lines, including dressing changes and flushing protocols Monitor for complications such as infection, occlusion, or thrombosis Administer IV medications, fluids, and blood products as ordered Educate patients, families, and caregivers on PICC line care and infection prevention Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all procedures and patient interactions Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary team members Ensure compliance with infection control standards and best practices Respond to and manage PICC-related complications or emergencies Participate in quality improvement and performance initiatives Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice Current PICC Line Certification (required) Minimum of 1–2 years of nursing experience (home health or infusion therapy preferred) Experience with ultrasound-guided vascular access (preferred) Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred) Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of vascular access devices and infusion therapy Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills Proficiency in sterile technique and infection control practices Strong communication and patient education skills Ability to work independently and manage time effectively Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills Work Environment Home health settings, patient residences, and/or clinical environments Travel required within service area Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases Physical Requirements Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 25–50 pounds Manual dexterity for performing clinical procedures Ability to travel to patient locations Additional Requirements Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation Current CPR certification Compliance with all agency policies, HIPAA regulations, and safety standards
