RN NURSING SUPERVISOR JOB DESCRIPTION PURPOSE: The RN Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the nursing staff for the care provided to the residents in the facility during the shift of duty. RN Supervisor has. The knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to age-related needs to the residents. Has the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Also, has knowledge of nursing and medical practices, and regulations pertaining to nursing care facility. The supervision is in accordance with current federal; state, and local regulations; and the guidelines that govern the facility. DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY: As RN Nursing Supervisor, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. GENER A L DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Make rounds and identifies the problems. Initiates the intervention with appropriate follow up. Performs patient care, assess resident's condition, and takes/monitor residents vital signs. Notifies MD of change in resident's condition and receives and carries out MD orders. 2. Performs resident assessment as condition warrants. 3. Develops, implements, and evaluates the plan of care. 4. Initiate the emergency measures according to the facility's policies and nursing practices. 5. Communicates with incoming shift regarding resident care needs; and with the unit manager. 6. Monitor all the residents to ascertain condition and comfort. 7. Follows safety policies-in performing resident care. 8. Monitors restraint application and documentation. Safely provide care on resident with special needs (i.e., tracheotomy, GTF/ TPN/ F/C, dialysis, etc.) 9. Communicates with the physician the status of the resident condition and carry out any orders. 10. Communicates with IDT regarding resident care. 11. Coordinates with the· other discipline on admission of new residents, as well as changes on residents' plan of care. 12. Supervise and direct subordinates under him/her. 13. Safely administer medication as ordered including but not limited to breathing treatments, parenteral, enteral, Intramuscular, subcutaneous injection, etc. 14. Ahle to assess and provide wound care assessment and treatment. 15. practice infection control standards. 16. Admits, transfers-and discharges residents as orderedbythepliysician. 17. Notify physician. and responsible party of resident's for any-change of condition. 18. Safeguards resident's privacy and dignity. 19. Provides assistance to the nursing staff related to care. 20. Document & assessment care and treatment to the residents. 21. Assumes thorough regular observation & evaluation of licensed staff and proficient in the delivery of resident care & re competent to perform all necessary treatment & procedures. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state. 2. Must be certified with a current CPR card. 3. Responsible for supervision & directing LVN & RN Charge Nurse in providing nursing care. 4. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language. 5. Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept. 6. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. 7. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, governn:1ent agencies/personnel, and the· general public. 8. Must he knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities. 9. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel. 10. Must possess the ability to lift, push or pull 50 lbs. Also, must possess the ability to bend, kneel or stoop.
