The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is primarily responsible for providing direct, quality clinical care and the supervision of nursing assistants working with residents assigned to each unit. Key responsibilities include visiting residents on assigned unit daily to observe and evaluate each resident's physical and emotional status and notify the charge nurse, the physician, and/or the Director of Nursing when there is a change in a resident's condition; identifying resident problems and emergency situations and initiating immediate lifesaving measures in the absence of a physician; providing holistic care for residents within the scope of the LPN license; assisting in monitoring the inventory of medications, medical supplies and equipment to ensure adequate supply; performing administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting; and reporting occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policies.
