Shall Report to the Director of Nurses and shall assume responsibility for Orientation, In-Service Education, and a Certification Training Program (if applicable) for the nurse assistants as required by regulation. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT: Writes/updates Staff Development Policies on student absenteeism, completion and pass/fail requirements, history and physicals, and criminal screening. Prepares applications, for approval by DHS and DSDs, Orientation, In-service, Continuing Education and CNA Certification Training. ORIENTATION PROGRAMS: Schedules and coordinates an 8-hour Orientation program for all new facility staff, ensures training occurs prior to a direct patient care assignment. Ensures all nursing assistants complete 16 hours of required orientation training during the first 40 hours of employment. IN-SERVICE TRAINING: Plans and delivers all staff In-service addressing (10) mandatory topics annually using facility consultants where appropriate. Schedules and delivers at least 24 hours of CNA In-service training annually through classes which are made available at times accessible to all shifts. Evaluates In-service training to develop programs that enhance CNA patient care skills. RECORD KEEPING: Retains and files an Orientation Checklist, including a Skills Competency (Return Demonstration) Log, signed-off by a licensed nurse for all CNAs who complete orientation in the facility. Maintains copies of all requested and DHS approved program applications, changes and final approvals and the DSD's resume. OTHER DUTIES COMMONLY ASSIGNED TO DSDs WHO ARE NOT REQUIRED BY STATE LAW (TITLE 22, CHAPTER 2.5) TO PERFORM STAFF DEVELOPMENT DUTIES 40 HOURS PER WEEK: Participate in CNA hiring process as interviewer or screener of resumes. Participates in Quality Assurance meetings to identify training needs. Provides resources for licensed staff In-services in clinical skills development.
